What’s up? /wɒts ‘ʌp/
(expression) (informal) Usage note: This term is used by some speakers, often from the younger age groups.
An expression that can mean ‘What is the matter?’ or just ‘Hello’.
Example 1: Does anyone know what’s up with Esi? Maybe he doesn't have a passport. (http://forum.titans.com.au/archive/index.php/t-14787.html)
Example 2: If you see a co-worker coming down the hall towards you, simply saying 'hey' doesn't take up enough time. You'd greet them when they were fifteen feet away or so, then be left with an awkward silence while you finished passing each other. The What's Up? Good exchange fills that time.
