barbie /ˈba:bi/

(countable noun) (informal) Usage note: This is the usual term used by all speakers.

Short for ‘barbecue’ (which is also sometimes shortened to ‘bbq’). ‘Barbie’ or ‘barbecue’ can refer to an occasion (‘Come to a barbie’) or to the device used for cooking, which is usually a gas-fired or charcoal-fired grill, in a backyard (garden), park or country area. People dress casually for barbies and usually cook meat or fish on the barbie.

Example: There's nothing like a barbie and a beer with good mates and their families. (http://www.aussiebowhunter.com/showthread.php?t=4489)
