Cheers /tʃɪəz/

(expression) (informal) Usage note: This is the usual term used by all speakers.

A phrase used when people are having (usually alcoholic) drinks together and raise their glasses before drinking. It is similar to ‘Bottoms up!’, or ‘Skol’, ‘Salut’ or ‘Gān bēi’ in other languages. ‘Cheers’ is also used instead of ‘thank you’, and as an informal ending to an email.

Example: Cheers to good surf, happiness and health. (
